• Tail Gyro tab :
With the exception of the choice of the function to be assigned to the "Aux" channel, the settings on this page
relates only to the internal tail gyro.
- With an external tail gyro, you just have optionally to activate "Auto-Trim" on the "Aux" channel and that's all!
- If you use the internal tail gyro, the settings are basically the same as those of any other gyro. (see adjacent
view for details). Some points are however specific to Helicommand.
- Torque compensation:
This is the advantage of using the internal gyro! Helicommand receives the collective pitch signal and will be able to anticipate the rapid change of torque resulting for instance from a brutal increase of pitch, resulting in an improved performance:
. Without Helicommand, that type of mixing directly from the radio cannot be used in "HH" mode (the gyro would read that mixed signal
as a stick command).
. With the Helicommand, that mixing will be done 'in-situ" at the output of the gyro. This compensation will then be available either in "HH"
or in "Normal" mode
- "Aux" channel:
. "Tail gyro" option : Exactly like if you had an external gyro. Mode and gain will be set from the radio, using the ATV of the channel. The
"Auto-Trim" function is not active.
. "Auto-Trim switch only": The "Aux" channel is assigned to the "Auto-Trim" function. That choice must be made even if you use an external
gyro, the assignment is not made automatically. If you use the internal gyro, then the mode and the gain will be those defined by default or
those set via the PC in this tab.
Warning: The mode "HH" could be switched "Off" if a negative signal is sent on the channel. Ensure that the button assigned to the
"Auto-Trim" function does not send a signal less than 0 in the rest position. Otherwise, you would change the mode to "Rate" on the
gyro...
. " Auto-Trim & Gyro mode": A combo mode where a positive signal sent on the channel will trigger the "Auto-Trim" and a negative signal
will trigger the "Normal" mode on the gyro. Two buttons should then be set on the radio acting both on the same channel, one to activate
"Auto-Trim" and one to switch gyro mode. That option looks a little complicated and a possible source of errors. It seems to me that if you
are short of one channel you are best off ignoring the "Auto-Trim"; we can easily do without...
